What does it take to be on a SAR team?

Commitment, dedication, enthusiasm, the physical ability to navigate all types of terrain in all types of weather, work as part of a team, yet be self sufficient.  Learn navigation and orienteering skills, search strategy, search management. Ability to attend training on a regular basis (2 - 4 days a month mostly in Fairfield County, CT), flexible schedule to deploy day or night.   


K-9 Handler: Train and work their dog in any of the following disciplines; air scent, trailing, HRD, water recovery. Certification through Nationally recognized organization (IPWDA, NAPWDA).  Must attend in / out of state seminars. K-9's must have good temperament, be environmentally and physically sound, focused and have a desire to work.

​Support: Act as navigational back-ups, base support, communications, ground searcher.

Volunteer: Act as "lost" subject during training, fundraising, events.
